Other General Information:
WHAT IS KIWANIS:
Kiwanis is a service organization whose overall objectives are:
TO GIVE primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than to the material values of life.
TO ENCOURAGE the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.
TO PROMOTE the adoption and the application of higher social, business, and professional standards.
TO DEVELOP by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.
TO PROVIDE through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities.
TO COOPERATE in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and good will.

The Kiwanis Club of Andalusia was chartered on December 17, 1947, under the principles of Kiwanis International to work for a better quality of life for the citizens of Andalusia, our state, our nation and internationally.

Briefly stated, some of the principal features of our activity and responsibility are:

(1) Club Meetings:
Our club meets weekly on Monday at 12:00 noon for lunch at Tabby D's restaurant in town. The meal is followed by a program that last no longer than 1:00 p.m.

(2) Attendance:
All members are expected to make every effort to attend each weekly meeting. Attendance credit can be made up for missed meetings by attending a Board of Directors meeting, Key Club meeting, Builders Club meeting, other Kiwanis Club or participate in a club project.

(3) Dues:
The membership fee is $60.00. Dues are $100.00 per quarter billed in advance. The results is an annual cost of $400.00 that includes weekly meals.
Dues are broken down as follows:

$42.00 - International dues
$21.00 - Alabama District dues
$12.00 - Lodge dues
$8.00 - Kiwanis magazine
$317.00 - Liability Insurance: no additional cost to members.

(4) Other meetings:
a. Board meetings: Quarterly, usually 1st month of the quarter or at the call of the president.
b. Committee meetings: As called by the chairperson or club president
c. Interclub meetings: Four or more members visit another Kiwanis Club
d. Special meetings: Spouse Fair Appreciation Banquet

(5) Induction of New Members:
New Members are ususally inducted at a club business meeting the last week in each month. New members receive a membership kit with a "K" lapel pin, certificate of membership, and other material.

(6) Committee assignment:
Upon induction, new members are assigned to a club committee by the president. The committee chairperson will immediately meet with the new member and explain what this committee does.

(7) Information:
We publish a club bulletin weekly to keep members informed. The Alabama District publishes a semi-monthly newspaper of District activities. Kiwanis International publishes a monthly magazine that each member receives.

Throughout the year, we participate in a wide variety of projects to benefit our community.
